The Ultimate Golf Room Checklist
Whether you’re beginning the process of designing the golf room of your dreams or just learning that you can golf at home, this golf room checklist is for you. We’ve compiled all the golf room must-haves and nice-to-haves that you'll want in your new space.
There are two main options for creating a home golf simulator. You can either build it yourself (DIY), which may be more cost-effective and customizable, or opt for a pre-packaged bundle, an all-in-one solution that comes with ease and convenience. The choice depends on your technical know-how, space limitations, budget, and personal preferences.
For an immersive experience, it’s crucial to invest in a good-quality launch monitor, realistic golf software, and high-definition visuals using projectors and screens.
Here’s a summary of what you’ll need for your indoor golf room:
- Golf Screen to catch the ball
- Wraparound Enclosure to surround your space
- Enclosure Add-Ons
- Launch Monitor
- Software
- Hitting Mat
- Projector
Golf Screens & Enclosures
Golf Impact Screen – You need a surface you can hit a ball at that can withstand direct impact from the fastest moving golf balls. Carl's Place has golf screens available in three different materials, and perfect for any DIY setup. This is a golf room checklist essential!
Golf Simulator Enclosure– The enclosure catches any shots that miss or bounce off the screen while also shading the screen for the brightest projected image. Carl's Place offers two types of enclosures, the DIY and the Pro. The DIY is an easy-to-assemble kit that is essential for your at-home practice. The Pro is designed for high-end golf simulator installations. These kits provide the perfect balance between top-of-the-line performance and easy installation.
Enclosure Add-Ons
Pipes-You need pipes to build your golf simulator. You can get them at the hardware store or from us.
Foam-Highly recommended to help close the gap between the screen and wall, protecting your enclosure frame
Net Walls-If errant balls are a concern, a set of golf hitting net extensions provides an additional barrier to keep your golf balls in the hitting area.
Launch Monitors and Computers
Launch Monitors-analyze your swing. They are the brains of your golf simulator and tell you where the ball went, how your club angle was, how fast your golf swing was, and other important data parameters that provide all that detailed info about your game.
Launch monitors range from inexpensive, entry-level devices all the way up to high-end, luxury options.
TIP: Make sure to understand the requirements of the simulator system when shopping for a computer.
Gaming computer – It’s likely that your simulator software will require a computer with certain specifications
Tablet-or similar device - Some launch monitors and software can run from a tablet, iPad or even a smartphone
Software
Software helps you visualize where your ball goes, as well as gives you courses and driving ranges on which to play. A golf simulator is pretty boring without software. Launch monitors typically come with some basic software that lets you at least practice. But to play on actual courses, you'll often need to upgrade to some of the cooler software.
E6 Connect - also offers a 4K experience with online leagues and a fantastic selection of courses
Hitting Mat
Hitting Mat - provides a nice, soft surface meaning your joints shouldn’t hurt after hitting off it.
Projector
Projector – No golf room checklist is complete without a projector! Depending on the size of your space.
TIP: When selecting a projector, consider the shape of your projector screen. If you’re planning to project in 4:3, make sure you select a projector with a 4:3 native aspect ratio.
Projector Mounts
Ceiling Projector Mount – Mount a standard throw projector above the tee to avoid casting a shadow onto your impact screen.
Floor Mount - Place your short-throw projector on the floor and keep it safe in this protective case.
